Layouts Tab

This tab is used to select from several automatic print-time features that allow you to create booklets or miniature layouts from any page size. The automatic features are great for quick-print situations, where you need a booklet, or you just want to save paper. Of course, for more control, you can always use a PrintChef printing style to layout and design your own more sophisticated booklet or miniature layout.

      



Automatic
Miniatures 		PrintChef at print-time allows you to choose from 6 predefined miniature configurations and then create those automatically as you print. There are two rotated miniatures: 2x1 and 3x1; and four non-rotated miniatures: 2x2, 2x3, 3x3, and 4x4. You can also add features like print boundary borders and cause PrintChef to create a complete paper full of the same miniature pages (like a photo page of the same pictures).

Of course, our miniatures automatically adjust for portrait or landscape printing... just as you would expect!

Automatic
Booklets 		PrintChef at print-time allows you to choose any automatic booklet generation format. Automatic booklets are created by shrinking the current page and then rotating it to create two pages (of the booklet) on the paper. This is great for prints from the web.

You can choose from left, right, top, and bottom binding, and from normal head-to-head page or head-to-toe calendar page layouts. And, because the shrunken page that defines the booklet may not cover the paper when rotated, you can choose to stretch pages to fit.

This gives you full coverage of the booklet pages, but can also distort the text and images in the booklet. If you don't want stretched pages, but still want to fill out the entire printing area, then you can use the Paper Designer to create new page sizes


Summary

  • Choose from one of our predefined miniature layouts.
  • Print the mini-pages on the paper in a variety of ways-- click the 'Order' buttons to organize the mini-pages in different directions. (The image area will show how the pages will print.)
  • Outline the mini-page's print boundary with a 1/4-point border.
  • Print the same mini-page multiple times on a single sheet of paper.
  • Bind the "first page" of a booklet on any side.
  • Orient the booklet's facing page to create standard booklets, flipped booklets, steno pad booklets, or calendar booklets.
  • Stretch the booklet pages to fit the entire paper (Note-- this can cause text and graphic distortions).

Unbelievable layout capability...
  • For miniature orientations, you can choose from 96 possible combinations for each paper type.
  • For miniature layouts, you can choose from our standard 2x1, 3x1, 2x2, 3x2, 3x3, and 4x4.
  • For automatic booklets, PrintChef will shrink pages to fit, add needed blank pages, and properly organize them.
  • Shrink the pages uniformly or stretch the pages to fill the target paper.
  • If our automatic cuisine is not enough, then you can design your own booklets & miniatures to suit your taste.
