You can control and restrict the printing
process and access to certain printers
using PrintChef's security system.

Secured Printing

PrintChef's security system gives you total control over the process of printing. You can specify in a three-tiered system of user, group, and job the access to printing. Each user is given their own password and the system manager can maintain access to job numbers. You can also specify which printers are unsecured so that desktop printers in a user's office can be excluded from security considerations.

When security has been activated, this dialog appears whenever any attempt to print occurs, unless the specific printer or user has been cleared for unsecured printing. At this point, the user is required to specify the user name, their password, and select from a valid job number or enter one into the job number slot. Users can add comments to the print log to help justify why a print is being done.

For convenience, users may choose to save settings so that repeated prints are reduced only to re-entering the password.

PrintTracker
Extension

If you add PrintTracker support to your PrintChef Pro system, this adds several new capabilities to the printing security system.

Group Level Tracking: With PrintTracker installed, the group (or division) access level can be tracked in the print log. This is great for tracking how much printing a department might accomplish in a month.

Expiration & Page Limits: In addition to normal job specifications, PrintTracker adds to the mix the capability to limit jobs to a specific date or page count. An expiration limit means that when a job expires, the users can no longer use that job to print. Page limitations mean that no user can print a job larger than the specified value. This is great when you want to prevent the accidental submission of large print jobs to costly color printers.

Extended Job Numbers: PrintTracker adds the capability to create variable job numbers that allow you to specify a format for the job number. This means that you can tailor the job number to fit the actions of your business, so that logged reports and database information can be accessed according to your companies own standard job number formats.
